Blonde Redhead – 23 (4AD)
Every year if lucky enough, I can discover some new loves from millions of artists releasing new materials, such as 13 & God for 2005, 65daysofstatic for 2006. 2007 belongs to Blonde Redhead’s 23 (even though I haven’t got a chance to listen to their previous ones). Always having kind of admiration for 4AD artists, mainly due to Cocteau Twins, but I was scared away by Blonde Redhead’s last album Misery Is A Butterfly. The seemingly haunting sleeve cover was comfortless even before giving a go to the actual tune. 23 can well prove I was wrong (haha but that won’t change the habit of judging a release heavily on sleeve arts). So fortunately had a chance listening to the title track 23 when I was in China this summer, then love it! It is not necessary to single out one or two outstanding songs since the beauty is from the very beginning to the end. What style they are doing this time? Dream pop, shoegazing, experimental rock, whatever. There are also abundant sweet and seductive voices to swallow. Allmusic says, ‘ 23 is mysterious and modern with an artfully strange beauty that is more memorable than perfection.’ I say, ‘Absolute killer.’
Btw, the album cover is eye-catching and it got a cute nick name, 四条腿…Orz…

It's passed for ages since updated last article, Dd. But you came back again... not familiar with the detail of songs, but good chance for me to know your writing and interests. When are you updating an article next time??? Look forward to checking here.
